The Monthly Moon
for
NOVEMBER

"The Beaver Moon"
In various tribes and cultures throughout the world,
the full moon is known by different names each calendar month.
Each moon name is related to specific seasonal events
during that calendar month.
For the month of November, the full moon is known as
the Beaver Moon. This was the time to set beaver traps before
the swamps froze. The beaver fur was used to make
warm clothing for the approaching winter months.
Another interpretation suggests that the name
Full Beaver Moon comes from the fact that
the beavers are now actively preparing for winter.
The November moon is sometimes also referred to
as the Frosty Moon because of frost
that covers the grass and foliage each morning.
And even though the October full moon is most often
recognized as the Hunter's Moon,
some areas in warmer climates with fewer Winter months
recognize November as the Hunter's Moon.
Native Americans including the Dakotah and Sioux tribes
knew the November full moon as
"The Moon When Horns Are Broken Off."
